Bushmills 16 Year Old is a triple-distilled Irish single malt, made from 100% malted barley at the Old Bushmills Distillery in County Antrim, Northern Ireland. It is bottled at 40% ABV.
The whiskey spends 16 years in three types of cask: ex-bourbon barrels, sherry butts and port casks. Together they bring vanilla and honey, dried fruit and nuttiness, and red fruit with spice.
The nose offers baked apple, poached pear and honeyed malt, with dried cherry, toasted almonds, citrus zest and a little cinnamon and nutmeg. On the palate it is medium to full-bodied and velvety, with fruitcake, dried fruit compote, butterscotch, oak spice and vanilla. The finish is long and warm, with spiced oak, fruit and a touch of citrus.
