An Islay single malt from Caol Ila, distilled in 2014 and bottled by Murray McDavid as part of its Benchmark series. After its first maturation it spent five years in a first-fill Madeira wine barrique from Justino's, part of the bottler's Additional Cask Evolution approach.
It is bottled at a cask strength of 56.5%, without chill-filtration or added colour, from a single cask that yielded 281 bottles.
The nose brings ripe apple, bitter orange, fruit marmalade and spicy wood. On the palate, grilled peach meets Islay peat smoke and a salty edge, with an oily, full body. Smoke and pale malt linger in the finish.
