A 12 year old Caol Ila from Islay, bottled by Gordon MacPhail in its Connoisseurs Choice range at 45% ABV in a 70cl bottle. The whisky was distilled in 2010 and bottled in 2022, in a limited bottling of 3,900.
It matured in a refill bourbon cask and then spent one year in a Sassicaia wine cask. The character is described as meaty, sweet and smoky.
The nose brings Medjool dates, cured meat and pineapple. Stewed red fruits, demerara sugar and lemon peel follow on the palate, and the finish is medium and spicy, with citrus peel and campfire embers.
