Caol Ila 12 Year Old is an Islay single malt from the island's largest distillery, which sits on the strait between Islay and Jura. The name is pronounced 'Cull Eela' and means Sound of Islay in Gaelic.
Its peat is gentle and citrus-influenced, with sea and oil character ahead of medicinal notes. The distillery is also a major source of the smoke in Johnnie Walker blends.
The nose is smoky and coastal, with lemon, light brine and a subtle floral sweetness. The palate is oily and clean, with peat smoke, citrus and barley sweetness. The finish is long, smoky and dry.
