Caol Ila 13 Year Old is an Islay single malt selected by Gordon & MacPhail for its Discovery range and bottled in 2018 at 43% in a 70cl bottle. It was matured in bourbon casks, and is chill-filtered with no added colour.
Fruity sweetness and malt sit within a strongly smoky Islay style, though the peat smoke is soft on the nose.
The nose has apricot jam and strong vanilla with soft peat and a savoury touch of air-dried meat. On the palate come juicy pineapple, kiwi and banana with gentle sweetness, balanced by malt and lively lemon peel. The finish is long and smoky, like toasted marshmallow over glowing embers.
