This is a 14 year old Caol Ila from Islay, distilled in 2012 and bottled in 2026 by Gordon & MacPhail for its Spirit of Scotland series. Stuart Urquhart selected the first fill sherry hogshead, and 294 bottles were filled at 55.9% without chill-filtration or added colour. It comes in a 70cl bottle.
The nose combines smoked meat, stewed apples and bitter orange peel, with a touch of creamy butterscotch. On the palate, peat smoke meets sweet butterscotch and soft aniseed. The long finish ends on the dry, roasted bitterness of coffee beans.
