This Caol Ila is a 15-year-old single malt made for Feis Ile 2022. It was finished in virgin American oak and bottled in 2022 at a natural strength of 55.2% in a 70cl bottle.
The nose turns medicinal, with sticking-plaster, salve and iodine, then chalk, slaked lime, sea salt and a little ham or smoky bacon. The palate is lightly oily and smooth, clean yet sweet at first, with salt mid-palate and a peppery kick from the oak. The finish is long, smoky and lightly drying, with spice, smoked meat and medicinal hints.
