A 12-year-old Caol Ila single malt from Islay, bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in its Connoisseurs Choice Wood Finishes series. It comes in a 70cl bottle at 45% ABV.
The whisky was distilled in 2010 and bottled in July 2023. It spent 11 years in a refill bourbon barrel, then a final year in casks that had held Sassicaia, a red wine from Tuscany. The outturn was 3900 bottles.
The nose is fruity, with dates, raspberries and redcurrants, a touch of smoke and a hint of charcuterie. On the palate, demerara sugar and red fruit meet light smoke. The finish is medium in length, with milk chocolate, spices, citrus and campfire.
