This is a single cask Caol Ila from Islay, bottled for The Single Malts of Scotland series by Elixir Distillers. The whisky was distilled on 25 January 2011 and matured for twelve years in a single butt, cask 301634. It was bottled on 7 June 2023 at a cask strength of 61.2%, without chill-filtering or added colour, and filled 600 bottles of 70cl.
The character is strongly smoky and maritime, set against citrus freshness and malt.
The nose combines salty sea air and cool peat smoke with ripe lemon and a grainy malt note. The palate is salty and lively with citrus and firm pepper, the malt giving the smoke some body. The finish is long, with dry ash smoke, sea salt and lingering pepper.
