A 14 year old Caol Ila from Islay, distilled in 2012 and bottled in 2026 by Gordon & MacPhail in its Spirit of Scotland range. It is a single cask, number 311512, which yielded 294 bottles at a cask strength of 55.9%.
The whisky matured in a first fill sherry hogshead, which brings warm fruit alongside strong peat smoke and maritime impressions. It is natural colour and not chill-filtered.
The nose is smoky and savoury, with stewed apple, bitter orange peel and soft butterscotch. On the palate, marked peat smoke meets sherry sweetness and a lightly judged aniseed spice. The finish is long and slightly dry, with spicy roasted notes and hints of roasted coffee beans.
