A 25 year old Islay single malt from Caol Ila, distilled in 1996 and matured in a refill hogshead. It comes from Douglas Laing's Xtra Old Particular range and is bottled at a cask strength of 53.9%. The outturn is 248 bottles.
The nose recalls rock pools, the beach and harbour walls. On the palate, sweet, damp, earthy peat comes ahead of barbecue flavours, soot and ash. The finish pairs candied barley sugar with peated barley, salt and trailing smoke.
