This is a 40 year old single cask Islay single malt from Caol Ila, released in the Director's Special series of The Single Malts of Scotland. It is bottled at 49% in a 70cl bottle and comes in a solid wooden box.
Only 135 bottles came from the cask. The whisky has no added colouring and was not chill-filtered.
The nose is lively with citrus, sweet ripe peaches, fine smoke and subtle spice. The palate is full of fruit, with black pepper, layered spice and a balanced, mature texture. The finish is long and dry, with clear spice, a fine nuttiness and elegant smoke.
