This is a 40 year old Caol Ila from Islay, bottled by Elixir Distillers for The Single Malts of Scotland in its Director's Special series. It matured in a single cask that yielded 135 bottles, and comes in a solid wooden box.
It is bottled at 49%, without chill-filtration or added colour. Elixir Distillers chose one Caol Ila cask for this release.
The nose combines lively citrus and ripe peach with light smoke and subtle spice. The palate brings rich fruit, black pepper and layered spice. The finish is long and dry, with spice, fine nuttiness and smoke.
