Caol Ila – 40 Years Old Single Malts of Scotland Director's Special (49%)

This is a 40 year old Caol Ila, an Islay single malt bottled in 2025 at 49% ABV for The Single Malts of Scotland as part of its Director's Special selection. After four decades of maturation, the peat smoke and maritime character of the distillery are described as having softened. The whisky shows gentle smoke, polished oak, mature fruit and a delicate coastal saltiness. Citrus oils, soft fruit and maritime freshness are also noted, with the peat kept restrained.
