Cardhu 16 Year Old is a Speyside single malt from Diageo's 2022 Special Releases, bottled at a natural cask strength of 58% in a 70cl bottle. It carries the subtitle The Hidden Paradise of Black Rock, a reference to the Cardhu name, which comes from the Gaelic for 'black rock'.
The whisky began in refill and recharred American oak casks, followed by a finish in casks seasoned with Jamaican pot still rum.
The official notes describe a nose of lemon zest, white grape, pink grapefruit and ripe mango, and a creamy palate of rum toffee, spiced pineapple and green banana over crisp oak. The finish is quite short, sweet and peppery.
