This is a 12-year-old Allt-a Bhainne single malt from Speyside, released by Chapter 7 in its Monologue range. It was distilled in August 2008 and bottled in April 2021 at 49.7%, in a 70cl bottle, with 298 bottles filled.
It matured in a bourbon hogshead that has been with Chapter 7 since 2016. The whisky was then finished in a Caol Ila first-fill bourbon cask, and reduced to 49.7%, the strength Chapter 7 judged brings out its aromas best.
The nose has a fruit basket, flowers, Manuka honey, candied orange and a touch of smoke. The palate offers butterscotch, canned peach, honey, gingerbread and cinnamon, and the finish is sweet and long, with mandarin dipped in sweet spices.
