Chartreuse Gentiane des Pères Chartreux Liqueur (22.7%)

A monastic liqueur from the Carthusian monks at the Grande-Chartreuse monastery near Voiron, in the French Alps. It places a distinct emphasis on gentian root while retaining the house's broader herbal complexity. Produced in limited quantities and rarer than the standard Green and Yellow Chartreuse releases, it is bottled at 22.7% ABV. The recipe and production techniques are closely guarded by the Carthusian order, who have produced herbal liqueurs since 1605 using macerations of alpine botanicals, roots, flowers and herbs. On the nose there is a bold herbal bouquet centred on gentian root with echoes of citrus peel, mountain flowers, anise and subtle eucalyptus. The palate leads with gentle bitterness, followed by licorice, mint, angelica and earthy spice, with a silky texture and clean, drying finish.
