This is a 21 Year Old Bas Armagnac from Château de Laubade, an estate founded in 1870 in Gascony. It is made from Baco, Folle Blanche and Colombard.
The blend is assembled from 420-litre casks chosen by the estate's tasting committee, with ages between 21 and 25 years. It is bottled at 45.3% rather than the more usual 40%, which gives a richer, more textured mouthfeel.
Maple and caramel lead the nose. On the palate, cayenne and cinnamon warmth is softened by vanilla and orange peel. The finish is long and mouthwatering, with plum, ripe peach and lingering spice.
