Château de Laubade XF Chauffe Extra Forte is an experimental Bas-Armagnac from the Les Curiosités de Laubade collection. It explores how a particularly intense toast on the oak affects the ageing of the eau-de-vie.
It is made entirely from Ugni Blanc grown on the estate, harvested and vinified in 2015, then distilled at the property in an Armagnac column still. It comes from a single 420-litre Gascony oak cask made with the Doreau cooperage and given an Extra Forte toast, much stronger than the estate's usual medium or medium-plus. The cask sits in cellar number 4.
The aim is intensity without losing freshness. Prune and candied fruit meet spice and toasted wood.
