Chichibu The Peated is a Japanese single malt from the Ichiro's Malt range, distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2012 at three years old. It is bottled at 50.5% in a 70cl bottle, from a run of 5,000 bottles.
Peat is the theme. The nose pairs toasted marshmallow, lemon tart and grilled peach with smoke that moves from burnt wood to herbs and an iodine, medicinal edge. On the palate come woody and coastal notes, ginger and black pepper, then burnt pastry and orchard fruit. The finish is fairly long, with a lingering bonfire.
