Ichiro's Malt Wine Wood Reserve is a blend of Scottish and Japanese malts, bottled at 46%. It was matured in French wine casks and then given a further maturation in former French red wine casks, which adds firm tannins and spice. The Ichiro's Malt range links the closed Hanyu distillery with its successor, Chichibu.
The nose shows clear red wine notes with oak spice, red berries, dark chocolate, nutmeg, cinnamon and cloves. On the palate, berry fruit moves towards orange, with nut chocolate, oak and peppery spice. The finish is long, with chocolate and red wine tannins lingering.
