This is a Chichibu single malt from Japan, bottled in 2023 at 50.5% in a 70cl bottle. It is non-chill-filtered and of natural colour, and 11,800 bottles were released.
The whisky matured in red wine casks from France, the USA, New Zealand and Japan. The sediment from the wine casks plays a part in the flavour.
The nose has rich malt, caramel and vanilla syrup, then cherry, strawberry and raspberry with light acidity, and a spicy nutmeg close. The palate is slightly tart, with malt, biscuity grain, blueberry jam, oak and tannins, and a touch of cardamom. The finish is medium in length, with tannins that build slowly.
