This is Craigellachie 18 Year Old, bottled by the independent Chorlton Whisky at a natural cask strength of 52.3% ABV. It is Chorlton's first Craigellachie, taken from a single refill hogshead that gave 273 bottles. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour.
Craigellachie is one of the last Speyside distilleries still using worm tubs, which give a heavier, meatier spirit.
The nose offers baled hay, orange, olive oil and brioche, with apples stored in a garden shed and a faint whiff of creosote. The palate is fat and oily, with apples baked in salted butter, liquorice, waxed citrus and burnt sugar. The finish is barley, citrus and oil.
