Claxton's Smoking Furnace (70cl, 46%)

Smoking Furnace is a blended Scotch whisky from Claxton's, part of its Core Range, bottled at 46%. It takes its name from the stone chimney of the former Dalswinton Smithy furnace, which still stands on the Dalswinton Estate. A high proportion of peated malt is blended with grain whisky, and the blend was married in shaved, toasted and heavily re-charred oak casks, which add sweetness and extra smoke. It was bottled only once the balance between oak and spirit was right. Tasting notes mention rich peat, glacé cherries, custard creaminess, bonfire and menthol.
