Craigellachie 13 Year Old is a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky bottled at 46% without chill filtration, in a 750ml bottle.
The distillery still uses worm tub condensers, which leave more sulphur in the spirit and give it a meaty, savoury backbone. The whisky is matured in ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks, then roughly half the stock is finished in first-fill sherry casks and the rest in first-fill bourbon casks. The malt is essentially unpeated.
The nose brings toasted marshmallow, roasted pineapple and baked apple with cloves. The palate is grilled pineapple, mango and berries, then vanilla, almond and cinnamon spice. The finish is medium to long, gently smoky, with pine nut and an oily texture.
