Craigellachie 17 Year Old is a Speyside single malt Scotch bottled at 46% ABV in a 750ml bottle. It matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and ex-sherry casks with first-fill finishes.
Craigellachie, which has been distilling since 1891, still uses worm tub condensers. These keep the sulfur high in the new make and give the whisky a meaty, robust character. The malt is essentially unpeated.
The nose offers vanilla cream, caramel, tinned pineapple and dried apricot, with smoky liquorice. The palate is rich and oily, with toffee, dark honey and treacle, then malt loaf, cocoa and pepper. The long, drying finish has dark chocolate, coffee and a hint of brine.
