This Craigellachie was distilled in 2009 and bottled in 2023 by Murray McDavid as a single cask for its Benchmark series. After time in a sherry hogshead, it spent its last five years in a barrique that previously held Bordeaux red wine.
It is bottled at cask strength, 58.3%, with natural colour and without chill filtration, in an outturn of 280 bottles of 70cl.
The nose combines blackberries, cranberries and grapes with honey and malt, then some wood and coffee. The palate is full and creamy, with chocolate pralines, red grapes, baking spices and floral notes, turning spicier and slightly dry. The finish is oily and malty, with spicy oak and bittersweet cocoa.
