This is a 30 year old Highland single malt from Dalwhinnie, which is described as the highest distillery in Scotland. It is part of the 2019 Special Release and is bottled at a natural cask strength of 54.7%.
The whisky matured for three decades in refill hogsheads and butts. It is a small batch, with an outturn of 7,586 bottles worldwide.
The nose is mild, with a waxy, smoky top note before a savoury character and a sweet hint of heather pollen. The palate is big, creamy and mouth-filling, rich and sweet with spice and a touch of salt. A growing peppery heat carries into a tongue-tingling finish.
