This is a 30 year old Dalwhinnie, a Highland single malt from the distillery often described as the highest in Scotland. It is a small batch of 7,586 bottles, bottled at 54.7% in a 70cl bottle and presented in a gift box.
The whisky was matured in refill hogsheads and butts. It shows the moorland aromas and the sweet but peppery character of the distillery.
The nose is mild, with a waxy, smoky top note, a savoury centre and a hint of heather pollen. The palate is creamy and full, rich, sweet and spicy, with a touch of salt. The finish carries a growing peppery heat.
