Dartmoor Ex-Bordeaux Red Wine Cask Matured Whisky (70cl, 9%)

This is a whisky from Dartmoor Distillery in Devon, matured in ex-Bordeaux red wine casks and sold in a 70cl bottle. It is made in the distillery's unconventional 1,400 litre Cognac still, under master distiller Frank McHardy, formerly of Springbank and Bushmills. The barley comes from nearby Preston Farm and is malted at Warminster Maltings. The distillery draws its water from a 200-foot borehole on the moor. The notes describe raspberry and blackcurrant over a core of malty vanilla, with a whiff of white pepper. It develops into demerara sugar, cinnamon and toasted nuts.
