Doc Swinson's Alter Ego is a straight rye whiskey finished in rum casks using the solera method. It began as an experiment with casks that had held rum aged five years or more from Trinidad, Venezuela and Jamaica.
The base is a blend of two MGP ryes, both five years old or more, one with a 95% rye mashbill and the other with 51% rye. Together they come to about 73% rye. The spirit enters the top row of the solera at 103 proof, and what is bottled comes straight from the solera at 95 proof.
The notes run to light oak, drizzled caramel, fig and poached pears with cinnamon, ending on long, grassy cane sugar.
