This is a 10 year old Laphroaig from Islay, distilled in 2005 and bottled in August 2016 by independent bottler Douglas Laing as part of its Provenance series. It was aged in a refill hogshead and comes from a single bourbon cask, giving 403 bottles, in a 70cl bottle.
The nose is big with peated malt, coal dust and charred ash. The palate is sweet, with soft summer tar, chimney soot and ash, and it is full of phenols. The finish echoes the palate, with a honeyed sweetness arriving later.
