An 8 year old Caol Ila from the Dun Eideann range, distilled in 1990 and bottled in 1998 by Signatory Vintage at 43%, in a 70cl bottle.
The nose is clean peat smoke, cold ash, sea salt and iodine, with lemon peel, green apple and a soft sweetness of vanilla and damp malt behind. The palate starts lightly sweet, then turns dry and salty, like brine, with white pepper, sharp lemon and a steady medicinal smoke.
The finish is long and distinctly dry, with bonfire ash, citrus peel bitterness, black pepper and strong saltiness.
