Akashi Goju 50 Sherry Cask is a Japanese whisky from Eigashima Shuzo, which has distilled in Akashi City, Hyogo, since 1888. It is blended from wheat, rye and lightly peated malted barley whiskies, double-distilled in copper pots.
The blend is finished for about two years in Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry casks. It is bottled at 50% ABV and is non-chill-filtered. The name Goju means fifty, a nod to that strength.
The nose offers raisin, dried fig and vanilla pastry. On the palate come sherry-soaked fruit, smoked sea salt, baking spice and dark chocolate with a flinty edge. The finish is long and warming, with sherry oak and gentle peat smoke.
