This is a peated Hercynian single malt from the Emperor's Way series, a tribute to the historic Harz imperial route. The edition honours Otto I, the first Duke of Brunswick, and was bottled at 59.8% in a 70cl bottle.
The barley is local and was dried over Lower Saxon peat to as much as 35 ppm. The whisky matured in first fill Pedro Ximénez and Oloroso sherry hogsheads and octaves. Only 1,204 hand-numbered bottles were filled, a number that marks the year of Otto's birth.
Strong peat smoke sits alongside raisins, fruitcake and mandarin, with chocolate, malt, roasted nuts, gingerbread and caramel.
