Frederick II is an eight-year-old single malt from the Elsburn distillery, bottled by Hercynian Distilling Co. under the Emperor's Way name. It combines spirit distilled between 2016 and 2018, made from local barley dried over Lower Saxon peat to as much as 35 ppm. It matured first in Amarone hogsheads and was then finished in Marsala casks. Bottled in 2026 at cask strength, 57.1%, without colouring or chill filtration, it is an edition of 1,220 bottles of 70cl that refers to the year of Frederick II's imperial coronation. Peat smoke and spice sit alongside cherry, plum, grape and raisin on the nose. The palate is full and powerful, with dark chocolate and mild coffee. The finish is long, warming and dry.

About Glenbotal

The idea of Glenbotal came to us naturally: as whisky lovers, we were always on the lookout for new experiences in the whisky world. That’s why we created Glenbotal and became our very own first customers. We buy unique and hard to find spirits from ballots and private collections. Then, we share them with a small circle of friends and people who can appreciate a good dram.
