Farthofer Bio Single Malt 2018 is an Austrian single malt in a 50cl bottle at 43%. It is the distillery's first single malt made from its own organic malting, and this Double Cask edition is limited.
The whisky matured for five years in used red wine barriques, then spent 13 months in barriques that held Mostello, the distillery's pear dessert wine made from regional pears. It is non-chill-filtered and has no added colour. Each bottle is filled by hand and sealed with a hand-stamped wax seal.
The nose is dark chocolate, nougat and toasted malt. The palate is full, with chocolate and malt alongside red wine and the sweetness of dried fruit. The very long finish carries dried pears and fine wood.
