Fleurieu The Palace of Humbug Peated Single Malt Whisky (70cl, 53%)

The Palace of Humbug is a peated single malt from Fleurieu Distillery in Goolwa, South Australia, bottled at 53% without chill-filtration in a 70cl bottle. It is named after a fictional sanctuary for sweet-toothed contrarians. It is distilled on the South Australian coast from locally malted barley, with Scottish peat influence, and matured in a mix of American oak and tawny casks. The nose offers liquorice root, peppermint, toffee and campfire smoke, with charred oak and briny driftwood beneath. The palate moves between burnt sugar, treacle toffee, roasted nuts and leather, with earthy peat and a maritime tang. The long finish is smoky and gently medicinal, with salted caramel, ash and peppermint bark.
