Giribaldi Barolo Ravera Riserva 2016

A 2016 Barolo Riserva from Azienda Agricola Mario Giribaldi, made from organically grown Nebbiolo. The grapes come from the Ravera vineyard in Novello, a south-facing site at 360 metres on calcareous, marly soil with a tendency to clay. After fermentation the wine spent two months in stainless steel, then 60 months in oak barrels. It is ruby red with brick-red reflections. The nose is sweetly fruited, with cherries preserved in alcohol, berry jam and a hint of pepper. The palate is warm and very soft, with vanilla and sweet, complex tannins, and spice returns alongside the fruit. It suits game, beef and rich spiced dishes, served at 16-18°C.
