A single cask Glen Elgin, distilled in 2006 and bottled in 2023 after 17 years in a refill bourbon hogshead. It is one of 274 bottles, at 50.1% in a 70cl bottle.
Glen Elgin is a Speyside distillery that has long supplied blends, White Horse in particular. Its character rests on fruitiness, from clear wort, long fermentation and slow distillation in six stills.
The nose has floral malt, rosewater and Turkish delight with citrus, buttery pastry and sultanas. On the palate come juicy stone fruit, runny honey and candied citrus with a little lemon and ginger heat. Chilli flakes and cacao carry the finish.
