Glen Moray – 18 Year Old First Fill American Cask (70cl, 47.2%)

Glen Moray 18 Year Old is a Speyside single malt from the distillery's Heritage Collection, introduced in 2016, and bottled by Glen Moray itself at 47.2%. It is not chill-filtered. The whisky matured entirely in American oak, in first-fill ex-bourbon casks, meaning barrels that had held bourbon once before. The distillery takes these from a single Kentucky distillery. Vanilla, toffee and oak shape its character, with caramelised autumn fruit and spiced apple alongside. The nose offers toasted oak, toffee with dark sugar syrup and caramelised fruit. On the palate come baked spiced apple and raisins with vanilla and a hint of smoke, rich and soft. The finish is long, with sweetness and spice slowly fading, leaving a little smoke and toasted oak.
