Glen Ord – 1973 23 Year Old Rare Malts Selection (75cl, 59.8%)

A Highland single malt distilled in 1973 at Glen Ord and bottled in 1997 at 23 years old, at a cask strength of 59.8%. It comes in a 75cl bottle and was released as part of the Rare Malts Selection. It was the first of only two Glen Ords in that series, followed in 1998 by a 1974 bottling at 60.8%. It is described as waxy, mineral and herbaceous, with salt, smoke, subtle peat and white stone fruits. The style is austere and old-fashioned, and with time and a little water it is said to open into a more aromatic complexity.
