Glen Scotia – 12 Year Old Icons of Campbeltown No.3: The Wulver 1st Fill Tawny Port Finish (70cl, 51.7%)

This is a 12 year old Campbeltown single malt from Glen Scotia, the third release in the Icons of Campbeltown series. The series draws on the saints and creatures carved into the Campbeltown Cross, and artist Joel Holtzman worked with the distillery on the artwork. This edition is named after the Wulver, a werewolf figure from local folklore. Master blender Iain McAlister matured the whisky in first-fill bourbon barrels, then finished it for nine months in first-fill tawny port casks. It is bottled at cask strength, 51.7% ABV, in a 70cl bottle, non-chill-filtered and of natural colour. It is described as showing dark fruit, rich sweetness and chocolate, alongside a salty, maritime character.
