This is the third release in the Icons of Campbeltown series from Glen Scotia, a 12 year old unpeated Campbeltown single malt in a 70cl bottle. The series draws on figures from the historic Campbeltown Market Cross, and this edition features the Wulver, a wolf-like creature from Scottish folklore.
The whisky matured first in first-fill bourbon casks, then spent nine months in first-fill tawny port casks. It is bottled at a batch strength of 51.7%, in natural colour and without chill-filtration.
The nose combines red and dark berry fruit with red apple, candied nuts and port sweetness. Dried fig, orange peel and chocolate show on the palate, and the long, warming finish brings dark cocoa, vanilla and oak spice.
