Glenallachie 19 Years Solera is a limited-edition Speyside single malt in a 70cl bottle at 50% ABV, part of the Masters of Wood series in which Billy Walker chooses the casks.
The spirit first matured in ex-bourbon casks, then moved for further ageing into Oloroso and Pedro Ximenez sherry casks that had spent more than 55 years in Spain holding sherry in the solera system, rather than being seasoned casks.
The nose is rich with raisins, plums, molasses, chocolate, honeycomb, heather flowers and a little mint. The palate is oily yet soft, with dried fruit, black cherries, honey, cocoa, ginger and walnuts. The finish is long, ending on a slight bitterness.
