This is a 12 year old Highland single malt from Glendronach, distilled in 2009 and bottled by the Scotch Malt Whisky Society as cask 96.37, in a 70cl bottle. It is one of 224 bottles from a single first-fill ex-bourbon barrel.
The nose runs from lychee, grapefruit and cherry to caramel, maple Danish and gingerbread, with polished wood and window putty. The palate starts with butterscotch, toffee, honey and custard tarts, then moves to lemon, ginger, sanded wood, leather and tobacco. With water, the nose turns to fruit flans, puff pastry and banana loaf, and the finish brings sugar-coated fennel seeds, ginger and clove.
