Glendronach – 33 Year Old Sherry Cask Bottled 2004 (70cl, 40%)

This is a 33-year-old Highland single malt from Glendronach, bottled in 2004 at 40% in a 70cl bottle. It was assembled from a small batch of fresh Oloroso sherry casks, and the sherry influence is the focus of the whisky. The colour is a rich mahogany with a tawny centre, and the texture is viscous and syrupy. On the nose, sweet stewed fruits, nuts and chocolate fondant stand out. The palate shows spiced fruits with bitter chocolate sauce, followed by a second wave of walnut cake and mocha. It is rich and unctuous throughout.
