GlenDronach 40 Year Old 1972 is a single cask Highland malt from the distillery's Batch 7 series. It was distilled on 2 March 1972, matured in an Oloroso sherry butt and bottled in October 2012 at 49% ABV. Just 356 bottles were filled.
The nose is delicate but expressive, with rose, passion fruit ganache, raspberry jam and leather, plus faint gunpowder and mint. The palate opens with Christmas cake, dates and raisins, then tangerine, guava and chocolate liquorice, smooth and dry in texture. The finish is long, with fruit, spice and a touch of leather.
