Glenmorangie – Astar (70cl, 57.1%)

A Highland single malt from Glenmorangie, bottled in 2008 at 57.1% without chill-filtering. Astar means journey in Gaelic, a name that reflects the distillery's long search for casks that suit its whisky. It matured in casks made from slow-grown Ozark oak from Missouri, a fine-grained wood that is more porous than European oak. The casks had previously held Tennessee whiskey for four years. The casks give notes of vanilla and crème brûlée, with a fresh touch of eucalyptus.
