Glenmorangie Bacalta is the eighth release in the Private Edition series, a Highland single malt bottled at 46% ABV without chill filtration. Bacalta is Gaelic for 'baked'.
The whisky was first matured in ex-bourbon casks, then finished in American oak casks that were baked under the Madeira sun and seasoned with Malmsey, the sweetest style of Madeira wine.
The nose brings baked apricot pastries, marzipan, orange fondant, mango, passion fruit, cinnamon, clove and toasted oak. The palate is sweet, with baklava, blossom honey, pistachio, orange curd and Turkish delight. The finish lingers with Middle Eastern sweets, spices, floral honey and sugared almonds.
